Old Red Door Quilt

Yes, this is a quilt! "Old Red Door" by Susan Brubaker Knapp of Mooresville, NC.
This quilt was featured on Pam Holland's blog: I Am Pam
The texture is so realistic looking. Remarkable!

Box Wall Quilt with Hidden Apples

My latest finish! I made this quilt top for the purpose of practicing my free-motion quilting, and I'm surprised that I really like it. You can see the quilting better in the close-ups below.
See more photos of this quilt here.

I bought some Fons and Porter quilting gloves at JoAnn. They're supposed to be rubbery so that moving the quilt under the needle is easier. But these gloves aren't very rubbery at all, so I don't recommend them. I ordered some Machingers online from Leah Day. Her online videos of fmq designs are wonderful (and numerous!).

Red apples appear in only one block.

Improv Wall Quilt is Finished

This improv wall quilt has no repeating block. It measures 40" x 44."

I like the saw-tooth edge surrounded by border-less white (Kona Bone).
This contributes to the modern look, I think.
All my Kona solids made it into this quilt except the grays and dull colors.
This kind of quilt is so much fun to make. Maybe I'll make another. :)
Aren't we lucky to have a hobby that never gets boring?
See listing here.

Elegant Daisy Chair

Trimble chair with a digitally printed Gerber daisy fabric from the Allan Knight Live Beautifully blog. This wouldn't "go" in my house, but it definitely would in my quilt studio!

Strip Ribbons Quilt

Isn't this a great quilt? I like the eye-catching photo with her gymnast son too!  The quilt was made by Gudrun Eria of Minnesota. She has the "Strip Ribbons" pattern for sale here. It would look good with some selvages too. Nice job, Gudrun!

Recycled Denim Toys

See how to make recycled denim bears here. Nice and soft.

Visit this site to see more recycled denim toys (above).

Lots of texture on this quilt! I bet it's heavy with all the waistbands and belt loops.
The source site doesn't give much info, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

See more denim goodness here (my denim Pinterest board).

Colorful Car Quilt

Vintage car quilt by Danny Amazonas. Nice job, Danny!
I think my family had a car like this when I was little. Yikes.
(Unfortunately it wasn't this color!)

Classic Shoes With a Twist

Great shoes for a cocktail party! These are Sapatos
I would wear these. I prefer comfort to fashion, but for these, I'd make an exception.

Extraordinary Quilting!

Have you ever seen such quilting? Amazing! I love this.

I found this photo on Pinterest. Searching for the source led me to a nasty site.
If you know who did this awesome quilting, please leave a comment.

New Quilt Pattern! Saranac

I love this log cabin variation with the little 16-patch corner blocks. And I like the depth created by the "dark, light, dark, light" arrangement of some of the prints. See the pattern here
*
Saranac is an Iroquois Indian word meaning a cluster of stars. It's also the name of a quaint town and a sparkling lake in the Adirondack Mountains of New York state.

See the pink tigers below? I like those Cotton & Steel prints.

Saranac quilt pattern. Scrap quilts are the best!

The Most Beautiful Pies!

I consider my pie a success if I can get the top crust on the pie without it tearing.
Braiding crust? I don't think so! But it sure is beautiful.
See more pretty pies on feedfeed. Maybe I can learn this before Thanksgiving?

Amber Studios - Eco Fashion, Wedding Coat

Amber Studios is all about art, fantasy and sustainability. Barbara creates stunning sweater coats, scarves, bags and home decor from recycled high-end collected materials. Her styles include Steampunk, Woodland, Gypsy, Fairy Tale and more. See them all here. This sought-after designer takes custom orders on Etsy and ships worldwide (from New Jersey, USA). She provides directions for taking your measurements, listens to your likes and dislikes, and then she creates the outfit of your dreams. Barbara is friendly and easy to deal with. I recently met her and viewed some of her recent creations. They are even more beautiful in person than in the photos. This white coat (which would be perfect for an outdoor wedding) is one of my favorites. But I have a lot of favorites!

I also love the scarves and bags from Amber Studios. The intricate surface detailing is over the top.

Although Barbara lives 40 minutes from New York City, her house is located at the edge of the woods. These photos were taken in her beautiful backyard.
New York City is a rich source for collecting fibers and embellishments. She says upcycling is a way of honoring the past and creating a new garment with a new story.
Bravo, Barbara!
